Spring Into Organizing: A Professional Organizer's Guide to a Fresh Start

As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, the arrival of spring serves as a perfect reminder to get a fresh start. For professional organizers, spring is an awakening. We channel that renewed energy into transforming spaces for optimal functionality and tranquility. Whether you work with a professional organizer or just need some tips for a fresh start this spring, keep reading – we have ideas to help you spring into organizing!

Set Goals for Your Fresh Start this Spring!

We think having goals makes everything easier, especially SMART goals. So before you dive into organizing for a fresh start this spring, think about what’s been stressing you most about your home. Whether it's creating a more functional home office, decluttering a closet, or reimagining a living space, having well-defined objectives will guide your organizing efforts.

Declutter with Purpose (and Yes, We Always Start with Decluttering)

Spring is a time for renewal, and that makes it the perfect time to embrace your inner decluttering queen (or king) and simplify your life. You don’t have to get rid of things you love or use, but it’s the perfect time to really think about what’s just taking up space and keeping you from enjoying your home.  It’s ok to let go of items that no longer serve a meaningful role, creating space for new opportunities. As you declutter, you know the drill by now – sort things into keep, discard, and donate piles. Think of the things you donate as an opportunity to give someone else a fresh start, too.

Embrace Functional Storage Solutions

One of the best ways to combine decluttering, organizing, and spring cleaning is to find storage solutions that help you manage the stuff you do want to keep. From storage stools that give you extra seating in your living room to hanging racks in the kitchen to free up cupboard space, there are so many ways you can containerize your home and give yourself a place for everything while still reducing the chaos in your living space.

Implement Sustainable Practices

In the spirit of spring and upcoming Earth Day, you can embrace the idea of sustainable organizing practices. Instead of buying new storage bins or containers, repurpose the things you already have in your home (or taking up space on a garage shelf). Baskets, jars, boxes, and bins can all be used to store things without spending more money – and it may keep something out of the landfill. We’ve even used wine glasses in the bathroom to store makeup brushes, so there’s no reason not to use your fresh start to get creative.

Use Your Fresh Start to Stay Organized

Establishing daily routines can help you stay decluttered and organized. It doesn’t have to feel like a chore, and it doesn’t need to be a huge amount of work. Just take 10 minutes in the morning to make your bed, put laundry in the basket, and do whatever dishes there are. Spend 10 more minutes at night doing the dishes, putting away laundry, and picking up the clutter of the day. It’s a lot easier to spend 20 minutes a day keeping your newly organized space decluttered than to have to spend a few hours out of your precious free time on the weekend doing it.

Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

Celebrate the achievements, no matter how small, throughout the organizing journey. Acknowledge the effort and commitment you’ve made to achieve your fresh start this spring and be proud of your progress, no matter how small it feels.

Organizing your home is a journey. Your relationship and emotional attachment to the things you own can challenge you to define and redefine what has meaning to you. There is no one right way to do this: it’s about finding habits and priorities that make your life more enjoyable, less stressful, and more functional in the ways that matter to you.

Of course, you don’t have to do it alone – our professional organizers at Organizing Maniacs are always happy to jump in and help you with your fresh start. Just give us a call whenever you need a little motivational help and support.
