Organization projects are not everyone’s idea of a good time. If you have multiple organizing projects to tackle, it can be overwhelming. Where do you begin? Luckily, getting started is the hardest part. Organizing can be a rewarding experience, and once you begin to see progress, it can feel satisfying and motivate you to continue. So, what project do you challenge first?
There are many benefits to starting small, because not every organization project needs to take an entire day. Set your eyes on a small project that you’re confident you can accomplish, like a bedroom closet or junk drawer, or your bed side table – or even a chair (the one with laundry piled to the ceiling) that needs cleaned off so that you can reclaim your reading corner. Decide on a single small project, and get started.
Make it Fun
The problem with organization projects is that they often seem like chores, but they don’t have to. If you’re cleaning a closet, use it as an excuse for a fashion show. Try on clothes that you haven’t worn in a while to see if you still like them enough to keep them. Remind yourself of favorite outfits, and put together new combinations as you organize. Turn up your favorite music, or invite a friend to help. Promise yourself some ice cream once you’ve finished, if that’s what will get you started. Take before and after photos to share with us.
Take Advantage of Momentum
The great thing about starting small is that you’ll love the progress. Suddenly there’s a space to sit in your room, or perhaps you’ve found a few things that you had completely forgotten about and are excited to use again. Organizing projects can cleanse you mentally as well, which is very refreshing. Completing a small organization project can inspire you to tackle bigger projects.
You’ll feel more confident about challenging yourself to a room rather than just a closet, and while you want to pace yourself, a dedicated weekend can have amazing results. If you take the time and energy to organize efficiently, you’ll never have anything but small projects to take care of. An organized space leads to a less stress in your life, and if you can find the motivation to organize, you can accomplish anything.
