Switching to digital storage for most of your paperwork can make the biggest difference. There are very few documents that need to be kept on-hand, and for those, organized files with labels are your best friend. Color code for visual ease and designate work spaces for specific projects. No matter what you’re working on, you’ll be able to reach quickly for the appropriate documents and stay focused.
Make it yours.
Actually, the plant isn’t a bad idea. The right kind of plant can even improve the air quality in your work space. But whatever it takes to make your work space unique to you, make it happen – a small plant, a lamp that offers different lighting, a photo of your kids, or a motivational quote on the wall. You spend quite a few hours at your desk, so you want it to be your personal space. Hang pictures, buy a comfortable chair, or invest in a diffuser (diffusers are not recommended for shared offices or offices where you have a lot of visitors, since they can trigger allergies and asthma). When your work space is organized around positive vibes, productivity isn’t a problem.
If it’s not a space you’re happy in, you’re unlikely to get things done or stay focused. When you organize your work space, it has a proven effect on your productivity and stress level, so don’t hesitate to spend some time organizing, decluttering, and rearranging.
